Manage pain when having a kidney stone

by Pharmacyin on Feb.06, 2010, under education

Below are some things to keep in mind when evaluating your pain on a 1-to-10-point scale.

  1. First, the pain from kidney stones usually occurs with lower back pain and to one side.
  2. Next, do not hesitate to go to an emergency room, because the pain of kidney stones is measured by those who have experienced it as a definite 10 on a 1-10 scale.  If you cannot be seen by your doctor in his office, then get to the nearest emergency room ASAP.
  3. The following article will explain the types of medication that usually work with managing pain from kidney stones.  Those two medicines are morphine and phenergan.  Note:  Do not take these medications on your own, but make sure that you have them administered by medical personnel to manage the excruciating pain that accompanies kidney stones.  Some medications will not touch the pain, so, if you are experiencing a 10-point type of pain, then ask your doctor or nurse on duty if these 2 drugs will benefit you when in that type of pain?  More than likely, they will suggest it themselves.
